Happy 30th Anniversary to Outkast's ATLiens

The second studio effort from the classic hip-hop duo Outkast, titled ATLiens, turns 30 today. 

While their debut is excellent, this record seemed to broaden Outkast's scope and style.

The album, produced by Organized Noize, Mr. DJ and Outkast themselves, finds the group starting to express more of their individuality, fully coming into their own. The backing music to the excellent rhymes has a laid back sound, spacey passages and chill vibe overall. 

The singles from this record certainly standout. "Elevators (Me & You)", "ATLiens" / "Wheelz of Steel", and "Jazzy Belle" all still sound great today. "Two Dope Boyz (In a Cadillac)" is a great jam and "Decatur Psalm" (featuring Big Gipp and Cool Breeze) has really cool guest spots. 

On a personal note, I would get into the band via their 1998 follow up to this album, moving to this and their debut later, but this one still sounds great and proves that Outkast are one of the best hip-hop acts of all-time.
