Happy 50th Anniversary to Warren Zevon's Self-Titled Album

On this day in 1976 Warren Zevon released Warren Zevon, and today we celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

While Zevon released a record in 1970, this self titled album is where his solo career truly gets going.

The desperado, poetic gun slinger, black out drunk was probably always in him personally but here on record it starts to show publicly. It isn't a perfect record, but it is a damn good one with the hopeless romantic colliding head on with the cutting asshole.

Some of his best songs are on this album, "Hasten Down the Wind", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "The French Inhaler" and "Mohammad's Radio" are all classic tracks while "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", "Carmelita" give fantastic efforts as well.

RtBE's personal favorite Warren Zevon song (and one of our favorite songs ever) closes the record. "Desperados Under the Eaves" is one of those songs that feels so perfectly lived in it is amazing.

You just know Warren heard that air conditioner when he was hung over, and the added background vocals from Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche of The Beach Boys as well as his friends Jackson Browne and JD Souther just sweeten the deal.

A hell of a record, give the 50 year old outing a spin today. Here are some songs to get you started:
