Happy 60th Anniversary to Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde

Happy 60th Anniversary to Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde

The seventh studio album from Dylan is one of Bob's monumental releases.

From the iconic cover photo to the final notes of "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" this album is burned in pop cultures history. One of the first double albums in rock, it followed up two other classics, Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited, both of which we celebrated last year.

It is safe to say Blonde on Blonde ends Bob's insane run of utterly amazing albums, and some consider it his peak. He moved more into folk and country with his next two releases, but Blonde on Blonde burned hot and sizzles with mid-60's energy. Bob himself said:
The closest I ever got to the sound I hear in my mind was on individual bands in the Blonde on Blonde album. It's that thin, that wild mercury sound. It's metallic and bright gold, with whatever that conjures up.
Hard to argue with the man himself, but this record, probably wouldn't top our list, maybe it tops yours. Personally, I think it would have worked better as a single album with a few songs taken off...but that is a topic for another time, today we celebrate!

On it's sixtieth anniversary, play it loud. Here are some songs to get you started:
