Happy Thanksgiving from RtBE!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Make sure you spend some time over this holiday doing what is truly important...Watching The Last Waltz:

For the gear heads reading this, here is an excellent run down of all the equipment used for this historic show.

Since it is a holiday here in the USA, also make sure to enjoy your time with loved ones and family. As a famous man once said, "Enjoy Every Sandwich"...especially the leftover turkey, mashed potato, stuffing and gravy ones on potato rolls...

The last few years we have thrown it back to Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades of the past and this years no different.

Here is the 2000 Thanksgiving Day Parade, now go get stuffed!

Free Download PHISH LIVE BAIT VOL. 17

With their summer tour kicking off tonight Phish has released the newest version of their free download series, Live Bait Vol 17
Go over to live phish to grab it

A few months back we came across the 7/3/00 show from the E-Center in Camden, NJ and enjoyed reliving the night. It was a good show, but not one that particularly stuck out in our memory, outside of the insane downpour we were caught in and the mudslinging down the lawn.

When diving back in though the "Runaway Jim" and the "Sand" from that night got immensely better upon re-listen and are now two of our favorite versions of those songs that we return to often.

Phish liked it as well including Jim on this version of Live Bait. Below are both of those two from the show.

Happy 20th Anniversary to Outkast's Stankonia

Come Halloween one of the biggest hip hop albums ever turns twenty years old as Outkast  fantastic Stankonia was released twenty years ago on that freaky night back in 2000.

RtBE got an early copy of this record back in the day, right before a long road trip (conveniently with another record we recently highlighted) and instantly fell in love with this classic album. That love has lasted to this day and we ranked it high on our list of best albums of the 2000's for Glide. In revisiting that list, we should have ranked it even higher...

Everyone can have personal favorites, but Stankonia seems to be the pinnacle of Outkast's career. The band brought in outside genres, totally embraced their P-Funk roots and brought their dirty south style to an international level.

Each song still sounds dope and the album is immensely fun to return to. Let's celebrate the record in the best way possible, by listening to the tunes:

20th Anniversary of Medeski Martin & Wood's - The Dropper

Late October of 2000 saw the NYC based jazz collective Medeski Martin and Wood put out their most experiential record yet on Blue Note records titled The Dropper.

Over on Glide Doug Colette went over the history and all of the tracks of the record so go there to read the fine article.

RtBE's personal connection is that we bought the CD release at Tower Records on Broadway and enjoyed it immensely over the fall of 2000. It quickly became our favorite MMW album and remains so all these years later. While not all fans of the band liked it, some thought it was too out there, or too hip-hop, we were right there for both of those styles.

Adding Marc Ribot brings in the downtown NYC jazz style while producer Scotty Hard adds a gritty 90's hip hop vibe. While albums like Friday Afternoon In The Universe and It's A Jungle In Here were our entry into the band and Combustication was the first album we really loved, The Dropper is the record that we go back to the most from the players; it is their freakiest and best.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary here are a few tracks from the record:

This week it is Candy Dulfer & Funky Stuff - Flashback Tour (Live in Paradiso 2000)

Continental's Lease Extended Through Fall of 2018

Back in November RtBE mentioned that a long time East Village staple, Continental was closing down this summer.

Now comes the good news from Brooklyn Vegan that the club has gotten three months added to it's timeline and will be open until October 1st now. The bar had been a staple of our youth in the area having witnessed lots of fun shows in the dark bar.

But we talked about that all before, for now let's celebrate it staying open by downing some cheap shots and watching some videos from the club's past, starting with a very young High On Fire back in 2000.

These shows are of varying quality and may not be here for long so enjoy them while you can...As always, please support the artist every which way, but especially by seeing them live (if they are still playing)...This week...David Bowie!

Occasionally for our Full Show Friday series RtBE decides to dedicate the month to certain topics like showcasing random years, say 1979,  or unique live venues, like CBGB's. Sometimes we combine both like Bonnaroo 2014. This month we are focusing on live shows from the year 2000. Enjoy!

Ending or focus on...Shows From the Year 2000!!! is none other than David Bowie. Can you imagine Boooo-wie in your funk?!? We have never been a big fan of his, with Station to Station being the only album of his we really dig on, but this is an intimate good looking and sounding show that is a nice way to end this month.

Pro Shot, Pro Sound, setlist and more info below the video, Enjoy!

Here is an artist who we know little about except that back in the day we noticed he had an amazing logo:
They were on one of the first Vodoo Fests we ever went to in NOLA, but somehow we missed/skipped them. Turns out the are one of the highest grossing Finnish bands of all-time mixing goth, metal, arena rock to chart topping heights.

While we never ran across any of their songs before their cover of "Wicked Game" sure is fun. The singer actually reminds us of a RtBE Personal Favorite Dax Riggs a bit, but we will stick with Dax morose swamp blues sound over the arena goth.

Pro Shot, Pro Sound from Rockaplast 2000, setlist is below the video, Enjoy!

The woman who taught Mick Jagger all he knows continues to throw it down in 2000. Let's be honest, this isn't her hey day or even her 80's comeback, but the fact that Tina Turner could still put on such a killer show in 2000 is something to be admired.

Pro Shot, Pro Sound (if a bit diluted) with set list and more info below the video, Enjoy!

This was a surprising find as we focus on the millennial switch over. RtBE had no idea The Bangles played shows that year. This is a fun night of tunes that has some really cool covers. Obviously the opener rocks, but a nice surprise for this Nuggets fans is their take on "Pushin' Too Hard" towards the end.

Beck has always been very interesting to RtBE. Why we can't say he has always been a a favorite, all of his releases are worth checking out and giving extra attention to; he truly is an artist in all senses of the word.

This tour is for his album Midnight Vultures and that is an album worth exploring. Funky, smooth and underappreciated in its day. While his live performances can vary wildly (when we saw him at Lollapallooza in '95 he was awful on purpose it seemed) this performance is pretty solid. The full brass and backing singers certainly help keep him focused.

Full Show Friday: Phish 12/31/99 Big Cypress, FLA

We search the murky back waters of youtube to find full concerts and post them to the site weekly, come back every seven days to help us celebrate Full Show Friday's. These shows are of varying quality and may not be here for long so enjoy them while you can...As always, please support the artist every which way, but especially by seeing them live (if they are still playing)...This week...Phish!

For December RtBE is having a special focus with our Full Show Friday's. This month we will showcase live shows, that we were at and also were huge influences on our musical tastes. We will also be trying to get some outside perspectives when we can. This will be a fun and personal month for us, hope you enjoy.

We are finishing up this week with the mother of all shows. We gathered a great group of friends and loved ones to head down to Florida for the show that ended the millennium in the swamps. Phish put on a mega weekend of music, we have said this before but we will say this again....

Out of every live show we have ever seen, this one takes the top spot.

Today we are just showcasing the midnight set, but hot damn is this a doozy, the band played from midnight til 7:45 in the morning...straight. Just when you thought it might fall apart, it soared. The band was in the best form of their career and they knew it.

We thought they may cover a full album, we thought they may pay tribute to The Grateful Dead, but all they did was play beautiful tunes in their fashion. This is also our peak involvement with the band. We had done a few shows on the Winter Tour, a week on the Summer Tour and basically caught every show we could after getting into the band in '96 and '97.

The band went loooooong and it was classic, the highlights are numerous. "The Twist">"Prince Caspian">"Rock & Roll" trio was a blast, we were stoked for the mid-set "Albuquerque", the "Drowned"> "After Midnight Reprise" was a huge blast. The peak may have just been "Piper">"Free" two of our favorite songs that are just played at the peak of the band and crowds power...huge.

We could probably write a book about this show, but for now the music will do the talking....Enjoy:

Full Show Friday: Pearl Jam 8/27/2000 SPAC Saratoga, NY

We search the murky back waters of youtube to find full concerts and post them to the site weekly, come back every seven days to help us celebrate Full Show Friday's. These shows are of varying quality and may not be here for long so enjoy them while you can...As always, please support the artist every which way, but especially by seeing them live (if they are still playing)...This week...Pearl Jam!

August is a special month for us here at RtBE and the main reason why is the perfect little upstate New York town of Saratoga which blooms in full each summer. Live music at the gorgeous Saratoga Performing Arts Center is a major reason for that affection, so this month we will be picking shows from SPAC to present for our Full Show Fridays

Now that we got rid of that dreck from last week (Editors Note: Easy...) we can all agree on the greatness of this band. Pearl Jam are American rock royalty and they bang out some damn satisfying music under starry skies.

This one is extra special because we were there. Another RtBE favorite Sonic Youth opened the set (wish that video was here) as they were touring behind their NYC Ghost and Flowers album. That was never one of our favorites, but the band still played old classics like "Teenage Riot", "Bull In The Heather" and "100%" . PJ even tipped their hat to NYC avant-rockers during "Daughter" and added a bit of SY noise-rock in one of favorite tunes of theirs, "rearviewmirror".

For the main act the band seemed to put extra aggression into things to start before becoming nuanced later in the set. This was a long show, and one of my favorite memories was hearing "Yellow Ledbetter" wafting over the gorgeous grounds of the State Park with my friend Don who insisted we hit this show (Thank You!). This show reignited my love for the band and while the recording is on a video camera and a bit shaky the sound is excellent for a 2000 outdoor venue.

Amazingly you can also download this full show over at the Internet Archive for free, keeping a lasting copy of this night. We did. Enjoy:

Well since we started our TBT series yesterday with a British rocker we are split on, we decided to keep the trend alive here at RtBE with today's entry into our Full Show Friday feature. Ah Oasis...one member of our staff digs them, one does not, be we know they got tons of fans worldwide.
