The five piece New Orleans based outfit Oh Dang's new release, Big Dogs, mixes 90's alt-rock with alt-country, all supporting the engaging male/female lead vocals that draw the listener in. The groups second full length effort finds them expanding, evolving the the band's sound.

Today marks the 35th Anniversary of Primus's second studio album Sailing the Seas of Cheese.

From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune:

From the barren blues of Time Out Of Mind comes "Million Miles". While not a standout on that album, the song was prophetic, hinting at the fantastic twelve bar blues variations that would dominate Dylan's next two releases. When first heard though it doesn't jump out, just feels like yet ANOTHER solid track from the bard that is ripe for covering.

A gripping blues cover that drips with garage rocking passion. A really cool, slow burning, Dylan cover.

Back in 2009 the Los Angeles punk rock band The Bronx decided to take a major detour and dive into their love of Mariachi music with an alter ego band, Mariachi El Bronx. It is safe to say their most die hard fans did not see this side project not only continuing, but flourishing for over fifteen years. Now comes the fourth installment, Mariachi El Bronx (IV) and their deep love of this genre of music continues to mix with rock, punk and pop in interesting ways.

Twenty years ago New Orleans based musician Alex McMurray and his wife Kourtney Keller developed a local music festival, in-between Jazzfest weekends in New Orleans. The all day event would spotlight musicians from their Bywater neighborhood and was named after Washboard Chaz, who would also play with every act throughout the day. This year the festival returned, arriving at a new location, The Broadside in Mid-City, but a lot of friendly faces who played past ChazFest's were on hand to kick off this new era of the all day festival.

For her sixth studio album, the Canadian based singer/songwriter Charlotte Cornfield deals with motherhood for the first time and the new outlook on life which that brings. The opening "Before" sets the tone as Cornfield repeats the phrase "Real love, no fantasy". The sheen may be off, but the raw emotions are the ones that stick around.

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover by Carson McKee of "My Back Pages"

Thoughts on Dylan Original:

From the first time we tackled a cover of this song:

The original has taken upon itself a cultural importance, and the chorus has simply become iconic. I doubt Dylan intended such, but it toes the line of out and out protest and illustrative questions. He puts down everyone from evangelists to girls, but the language snakes and flows so magically that it doesn't seem as harsh as "Positively 4th St" or "Ballad in Plain D". The sense of exhaling desperation or at least the realization that age confuses things even more seems to be what I take from this tune after each listen, but things can change...or can they?

Mr. McKee is getting better with age, this song is relaxed, lived in and excellent. A great straight ahead cover to start off the week.

For ten plus days during the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival at the end of April/beginning of May, hundreds of thousands of music fans flock to southern Louisiana for one of the most diverse and unique modern day, large scale American music festivals. Bob Dylan hasn't played the festival in twenty years, but decided to make a tour stop on Monday night, between major weekends, an hour and twenty minutes north of the city.   

New Single from S.G. Goodman covering Butthole Surfers "Pepper"

The Murray, KY based folk artist S.G. Goodman, who delivered one of RtBE's favorite albums of 2025 with Planting By The Signs, has released her cover of the classic Butthole Surfer gem, "Pepper". 

The tune is a bit more folksy to start but ends with a cosmic freakout the original band would have certainly enjoyed. Give it a spin below:

It was a radio broadcast, SBD quality that found the band playing their biggest show to date and really nailing it.
