On an overcast fall evening, in the courtyard of the refurbished warehouses that makeup Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, the quartet Real Young & Lazy Horse took the stage to deliver their dynamic, extended spin on Neil Young & Crazy Horse tunes. The resulting three and a half hour show was spiritually uplifting as the band channeled the core of the original group with energetic majesty.

One of the more intriguing Record Store Day releases this year comes from Sonic Youth who worked with John Oswald for this unique offering. Back in the early 90's Phil Lesh of The Grateful Dead approached Oswald about a project using his "plunderphonics" style, the result was Greyfolded, By piecing together various live versions of the Grateful Dead classic "Dark Star" Oswald managed to create something new and exciting (RtBE has been a fan of this since it's release). Now he shifts his talents to SY doing the same thing for their most experimental jam, "The Diamond Sea".

New Single/Video from Dinosaur Jr. "Several Got Away"

RtBE Favorites, Dinosaur Jr. have a new album and headlining tour coming later this year. The first single from the record (which is titled there near) is "Several Got Away" and it arrives with a fun video attached.

The experimental audio work is based on François Couperin's Leçons de ténèbres and takes the church based choral music and moves it into a modern instrumental realm, touching both the avant-garde and the holy.

The most accessible pop-art-rock of SY's discography, and it came twenty five years into their career. When RtBE was working with Glide Magazine for our favorite albums of the 2000's it came in 44th on our list.

"It can't be a Total Bummer with Flipper!" yelled Matt Korvette, who is taking over the lead vocal role for 80's punks Flipper during their 2026 tour. That journey had a stop on May 30th at a new festival in Maspeth Queens, titled Total Bummer. The two day fest paired some newer punk/noise rock bands with a few legends in the genre. The spacious Knockdown Center was not sold out for day one of the festival but still had a large crowd filling the inside/outside arts venue.

Sonic Youth celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1995 release of the excellent Washing Machine today. 

Sonic Youth were moving into their adult stage and this album signaled that anything was on the table for them.

On this day 20 years Sleater-Kinney released The Woods, an amazing album of ripping rock and roll.

This was the last album the band would release before a ten year hiatus when the excellent No Cities To Love emerged (which made our list of best albums of the 2010's). The Woods just may be RtBE's favorite SK album, so let's look back at it...
