Dylan Cover #673 Van Morrison-"Just Like A Woman" Live

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover by Van Morrison playing "Just Like A Woman"

Thoughts on Original:
From the first time we covered a cover of this song:
There are a lot of songs about the greatest muse known to man, woman. This one may top the 60's generation when it comes to dealing with Mars and Venus. Respectful in one breath and slightly mocking the next, Dylan can sense the pain, and I think there is a clear honesty in those words. Well maybe "clear" is the wrong term to use, nothing is ever clear with this subject matter. Treating the topic honestly Dylan tackles the differences between the sexes and the difficulties of relationships. Bob nailed this one making it one of his all-time greats.

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
Van Morrison has some amazing albums and some not so amazing. RtBE are big fans of the era of Morrison that this song was recorded during.

Thoughts on Cover:
A slowed down dramatic live rendition that works with Broadway like hits and builds. Van the man always loved the drama. RtBE also had to pick an Irishman to cover Dylan today. Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Wishing everyone a happy safe and fun St. Patrick's Day from RtBE and we might as well throw in a self plug.

Here is Angels & Vagabonds Irish inspired tune, "Queens Boulevard Serenade":

The story goes...in the lead up to our first St. Paddy's Day gig our band (Angels & Vagabonds) were working on some traditional Irish songs to play and our lead singer/keyboard player Don McNally realized they were basically all the same chords just re-arraigned.

So the Irish American from Woodside, Queens, NYC dug into his past and crafted QBS. He brought it to the group and after a few tweaks it was ready for prime time, we actually played it only about a week after it was written.

A little inside baseball into our process, now go celebrate by hoisting a pint....Happy St. Paddy's!

St. Patrick's Day Flashback to 2006: The Pogues and Scythian

This will be the first year in a long time that I will not be in NYC for St. Patrick's Day tomorrow. The holiday has a special place in my heart as my father marched in every St. Patrick's Day Parade he was able to from the 60's until the Pandemic. In looking back at some old writing, I found this from 2006 and wanted to share it. Reminds me of why I love the city on this day more than most. Cheers, Sláinte!

Streams have become essential for live music junkies like RtBE. Things are (hopefully) improving on the pandemic front but live streams will be an option for artists during the foreseeable future. We will highlight various shows/streams/virtual events for your viewing and listening pleasure and as a way to help out the artists. You can check out our weekly Full Show Friday series for concerts from the past and as always, please support the artists any which way you can.

GBH presents its annual A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn with Brian O’Donovan in five venues this year with six concerts total. Back to Worcester’s Hanover Theatre for the first time in a few years on March 17th (the day itself) before returning to The Zeiterion in New Bedford on the 18th, and then, to the wonderful Somerville Theatre where it all started back in 2004. The very first St. Pats Day Show. And concluding as has now become custom, in Beverly at The Cabot Theatre for a matinee on Sunday, March 20th.

This event is available virtually as well as in-person.

Starting at 7:30 pm, virtual tickets found here.  Check out the radio station and below is a video from past Sojourns:

Live Review: Murphy's Law & NRSV St. Patrick's Day 2019

Hey all, got a new review up @glidemag which you can read Right C'here!!!

It is of the recent Murphy's Law and No Redeeming Social Value show held on St. Patrick's Day at Bowery Electric in NYC. Both bands are some of our favorite of all-time in the NYHC scene and we are friends with them both.

While we have caught better shows from each of them, this was a fun night within spitting distance of CBGB's as the groups and crowd imbibed in drunken stoned mayhem.

Support the artists, read the review, and peep some video below:

Murphy's Law and No Redeeming Social Value Playing St. Patrick's Day

Two of NYHC's best are teaming up to invade Manhattan on St. Patrick's Day as Murphy's Law and No Redeeming Social Value will be getting wasted in their own ways this Paddy's at Bowery Electric in the East Village.

The last time we caught Murphy's Law they were opening up our favorite show of 2018 and it has been way too long since we caught our good friends in NRSV live.

This show is going to be a doozy, so get ready to get Sham-rocked...ohh the was bad, but the live video from both bands below from the Lower East Side is so good...grab your tickets to the show today.
