Having not seen the new Late Show, I was unaware Jon Batiste actually had a high profile gig as the band leader, replacing the amazing Paul Shaffer. Great for him, happy to see New Orleans moving into the Big Apple and taking over.
One thing from the show that I think was noticeable was Trucks personal restraint. Sure he let a few ripping solo's go, and he is an amazing guitarist by anyone's standards, but the act of band leader and dynamite guitarist seems to be rubbing against each other a bit awkwardly at times. Perhaps if he had a second full time player to feed off of things may be even cleaner and more dynamic moving forward. That said this was my first time seeing the full band, so maybe I just need to give it a bit more time to sink in my ear.
