Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour Returns

One of the coolest things that came out of satellite radio was Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour and now it is coming back.

Very very cool that it returns while we have written about it in the past we have never done it true justice.

This site has a collection of all of the past episodes and honestly once a week we dig into a random one as they are informative, funny, historical, and just great listens. Check out an episode on Madness below if you don't believe me, then get lost in all of the past great shows:

Album Review: Thurston Moore - By The Fire

Hey all, got a new review up @glidemag which you can read Right C'here!!

It is of Thurston Moore newest release By The Fire.

RtBE loves Thurston Moore's style, sound, and substance. Sonic Youth started as a major influence on us at a young age, continued up until we started our first band and keeps inspiring us today.

It is with great authority that we can state his recent work holds up with the best of his career. While this album may be a bit long/experimental for some, we love it.

It is also pretty cool when the artist gives you a shout out:

Buy the album, read the review, peep some video below:

Dylan Cover #447 Charlie Messing "What Was It You Wanted?" Live

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover by Charlie Messing playing "What Was It You Wanted?"

Thoughts on Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune:
Oh Mercy brought Dylan back in from the creative wasteland that was his 1980's. It had an eerie sense of foreboding, helped by producer Daniel Lanois and the ghosts of New Orleans. The irritable old man in Dylan came out a bit here as well, and "What Was It You Wanted" is a good example of that, a confused searching feeling colors the lyrics as the protagonist just can't seem to get it right.

Cover:

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
This is the first time we have heard a song played by Charlie Messing who uploads songs and videos to his youtube channel.

Thoughts on Cover:
While cutting out a few verses Messing does a fine straight ahead version of this bluesy Dylan tune.

Dylan Cover #446 Emmett Sherlock "Million Miles"

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a cover by Emmett Sherlock playing "Million Miles"

Thoughts on Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune:
From the barren blues of Time Out Of Mind comes "Million Miles". While not a standout on that album, the song was prophetic, hinting at the fantastic twelve bar blues variations that would dominate his next two releases. When first heard though it doesn't jump out, just feels like yet ANOTHER solid track from the bard.

Cover:

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
We have not heard of Emmett Sherlock before, but he is a singer songwriter from Ontario, Canada who writes songs and does arraignments of covers of artists like Dylan, Zevon and Waits.

Thoughts on Cover:
A raw simple blues, stripped down acoustic offering, that is very powerful in it's sparse arraignment and fierce singing from Sherlock.

Dylan Cover #445 Linda Ronstadt "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues"

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a cover by Linda Ronstadt playing "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues"

Thoughts on Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune:
An energetic romp that has been covered by everyone, this tune is a great swirl through Dylan's freaky mind. It was a punch and a whirlwind journey through Juarez, Mexico around Easter time...Maybe. There are lots of literary hints dropped, as well as a mischievous smile throughout. One of the first Dylan tunes we gravitated towards and with good reason, it is still one of our favorites.
Cover:

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
Have never been a big fan of Linda Ronstadt at RtBE.

Thoughts on Cover:
A slow moving number soft rock approach that takes a bit of the bite out of the track, but allows Ronstadt to use her vocals to the best of her abilities. Our favorite covers of this song are pumped up and more raucous but this is a solid different way to cover the famous Dylan number.
