Happy Thanksgiving from RtBE!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Make sure you spend some time over this holiday doing what is truly important...Watching The Last Waltz:
For the gear heads reading this, here is an excellent run down of all the equipment used for this historic show.
Since it is a holiday here in the USA, also make sure to enjoy your time with loved ones and family. As a famous man once said, "Enjoy Every Sandwich"...especially the leftover turkey, mashed potato, stuffing and gravy ones on potato rolls...
The last few years we have thrown it back to Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades of the past and this years no different.

Dylan Cover #658 Dana Williams and Leah Wellbaum "Mama, You Been On My Mind" Live
An early hidden gem of Bob's writing "Mama, You Been On My Mind" finds him getting poetic, melodic and rhythmic with his words. From the opening 'Sun Cut Flat' phrase Dylan is in top gear, talking to the woman he is thinking about with clarity, fleeting desire and a smirk. Often performing the tune with Joan Baez in those early days the tune took on an add dimension as a duet. A great song that should get even more love then it does.

New Single from amilost "Haunted"
“Haunted is about that person you can’t quite shake out of your head, it’s about feeling like you had control over the situation, but realizing you were in-deeper than you thought and that in fact - the other person has a hold on you instead.”

New Single from Yard Sign "Bookstore"
Quote from Scott Marks of Yard Sign:
“‘Bookstore’ is kind of a Frankenstein of different song ideas. I always wanted to write a song called ‘bookstore’. I’m a big reader and fan of romantic comedies, so bookstores are kind of a sacred place to me. Movies like ‘You've Got Mail’, ‘Notting Hill’, ‘When Harry Met Sally’, all about bookstores! Then one day I was scrolling through the internet and was presented with a meme from one of those ‘words are my porn’ kinda pages that said “someone telling you they read the book you recommended is the ultimate love language” or something like that. So the idea for the song was basically the opposite of that; someone NOT reading the book you recommended to them. I picked up the ukulele and the line ‘had an idea, but it was stupid’, just came right out. The rest of the song kind of wrote itself from there. I wanted it to feel like that middle act in a rom-com where the two leads breakup/fallout/get sad at each other. Sad, longing, but maybe also a little hopeful.”

Dylan Cover #657 Titash Chakrabarti "She Belongs To Me" Live
The first song in this series was a different cover of this track, here is what I wrote about it then and still feel the same way:
This is a gem of a song, a twisted tale that entwines beauty and deceit, darkness and sparkling Egyptian Red Rings. One of Dylan's best in it's mystery, elusiveness and bitter biting undertones; really pure Dylan and one of his all time classics. Loved it when I first heard it, still love it today.

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
This is the first time we are hearing Titash Chakrabarti who is a musician and avid Bird Watcher with some great videos on youtube.

New Video/Single from Vitamin String Quartet "Last Dinosaur"
“FLCL is an infectious, rock-fueled cartoon and “Last Dinosaur” is one of the most beloved and on-point pieces of music to be featured in any anime,” says James Curtiss, Director of A&R at CMH Label Group. “We’ve taken the power-pop, bubble-gum punk drive of the original and translated it into a soaring, vibrant string piece, creating an alternative reality theme, which is fitting if you’ve ever seen the show.”

New Video/Single from Vision Video "Let Go Of Time"
"I wrote 'Let Go of Time' not long after I was diagnosed with PTSD. I was watching my favorite vampire film (Jim Jarmusch's 'Only Lovers Left Alive') and I found myself feeling a lot of parallels to how the character Adam felt about the world - having to endure for so long, but always feeling less and less purpose because of this diminishing luster of things. I think that film, and ultimately this song is about finding purpose, joy and love when it is most difficult to find those things in life".

Dylan Cover #656 doppelfinger & OSKA "With God On Our Side"
From the first time we talked about around Veterans Day as well:
Perhaps the most poignant and lasting song Dylan has written and that speaks volumes. Lyrically it is perfect; using history, the warping of religion and politics to get across the point that man will rationalize anything, even war. Only played live 30 times since it's debut at Dylan's historic Town Hall show the song has added weight and meaning when it is played.
Morality and War, Religion and Righteousness, all just words when it comes down to it, hold life inside those letters. Musically stark, Dylan uses his impressive lyrics to express the confusion perfectly. Should be mandatory listing in every history classroom.

Dylan Cover #655 Bjørn & Henrik "Sweetheart Like You" Live
In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover by Bjørn & Henrik playing "Sweetheart Like You"
From the first time we tackled a cover of this song:
All of the songs on Infidels stuck around to long in the Bards brain (which we talked about before). While "Jokerman" overwhelms as a rambling waterfall of a song the first time you hear it, "Sweetheart Like You" is clear evidence of that fact that things were left to simmer on the stove longer then needed. It is a mix of condescension, sexy, sexist, insecure and scattered. In fact those things make for an amazing Dylan tune, but in this case I don't feel it really adds up to a classic or much of a very good song at all.

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
This is our first time coming across Bjørn Sigshøj & Henrik Kristensen.
Thoughts on Cover:
A live cover that is a bit shaky, but interesting with just a warbling electric guitar and vocals with a harmonica showing up later. Unique for sure.
It needs to be mentioned that with the USA's current political climate (and we will see how it shakes out tomorrow), more than ever this couplet from the song hits home:
