Album Review: Bequest - On Hills Will Death Play

Bequest
On Hills Will Death Play
***and1/2 out of *****

The Philadelphia, PA based punk outfit Bequest have a new offering out, On Hills Will Death Play. It is a slapping seven song EP and a strong statement from the group, which is made up from members of eX-Tradition, Kinetic Orbital Strike, and The Damage. The trio mixes in sludgy grime laden bass and aggressive riffs as the angst and power is all pushed along by killer drums.

Live Review: Total Bummer Fest 5/30/26 Knockdown Center, Queens, NY

Total Bummer Fest
5/30/26 Knockdown Center, Queens, NY

"It can't be a Total Bummer with Flipper!" yelled Matt Korvette, who is taking over the lead vocal role for 80's punks Flipper during their 2026 tour. That journey had a stop on May 30th at a new festival in Maspeth Queens, titled Total Bummer. The two day fest paired some newer punk/noise rock bands with a few legends in the genre. The spacious Knockdown Center was not sold out for day one of the festival but still had a large crowd filling the inside/outside arts venue.

Album Review: The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis - Deface The Currency

The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis
Deface The Currency
**** out of *****

The Washington D.C. based jazz/punk outfit The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis continue to evolve with their sound, happily falling in-between genre cracks. Deface The Currency is the core band's second outing with Lewis as the quartet are more assured and propulsive than ever.

Album Review: Regiment - Live at the Whiskey A Go Go

Regiment
Live at the Whiskey A Go Go
***and1/2 out of *****

Even before the music spins out from Regiment's new release, Live at the Whiskey A Go Go, you know what you are in for just by looking at the retro metal art. If anything, the playing contained within goes even heavier as the thrash metal burns with the power of an exploding sun over Los Angeles.

Album Review: Buzzcocks - Attitude Adjustment

Buzzcocks
Attitude Adjustment
**and1/2 out of *****

Back in 2018 when founding member Pete Shelley passed away, most thought that would be the end of the classic English punk band, but the remaining Buzzcocks soldiered on with 2022's Sonics in the Soul. Now they keep it rolling with Attitude Adjustment, an album that looks to expand their sound out past their drum tight, angsty rockers.
