Happy Opening Day!
I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game. It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism. Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set. Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us.
RtBE is here to wish you a Happy Opening Day! If you want to read a great piece about baseball check out this excerpt from Roger Angell's The Summer Game
Opening Day should be a national holiday, plain and simple. Once winter is gone (at least officially), Baseball can never arrive soon enough. Here's hoping your favorite team wins, especially if you are a fellow Mets fan. Let's Go Mets!
We know the ghost of Steve Goodman and Eddie Vedder are both rooting for those Cubbies...
Here are some more baseball inspired tunes to start the magical day, when we are all in first place:

Dylan Cover #624 David Broad "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" feat. James Shakeshaft
From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune:
A simple little number coming off of John Wesley Harding it discards the lyrical wizardry for a down home spin. We are rewarded with easy bliss, not often found in Dylan tunes. The emotions displayed by the singer here are heartfelt, hearty and easy going, just like the tune as a whole. Always a pleasant ride, bring that bottle over here...

The British based, reissue focused, label Time Capsule has released this intriguing collection titled Nippon Acid Folk 1970-1980. Usually when these reissues arrive they are overwhelming with obscurity, but in this case the label does a good job highlighting eight catchy tracks that deliver an enchanting vibe throughout.

Dylan Cover #623 AJ Lee & Blue Summit "Meet Me In The Morning"
A swaggering track that rose out of the ashes of "Call Letter Blues" (which was later released on The Bootleg Series Volume 1-3) "Meet Me In The Morning" is a shot of blues after the blissfully mournful "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" as it kicks off side two of the famous Blood On The Tracks. The song is one of the ones Dylan recorded in NYC for Blood on the Tracks and it pulses with the city's energy. A cool note about this straight ahead song (which is tailored made for covering) is that Jack White is a big fan, playing it at times at his shows and got Dylan to perform it for the only time ever on 9/19/07 in Nashville, TN.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Here is Angels & Vagabonds Irish inspired tune, "Queens Boulevard Serenade":
The story goes...in the lead up to our first St. Paddy's Day gig our band (Angels & Vagabonds) were working on some traditional Irish songs to play and our lead singer/keyboard player Don McNally realized they were basically all the same chords just re-arraigned.
So the Irish American from Woodside, Queens, NYC dug into his past and crafted QBS. He brought it to the group and after a few tweaks it was ready for prime time, we actually played it only about a week after it was written.

New Single from 4oreign Monae "Go Getta"
Album Review: Kim Gordon - The Collective
“On this record, I wanted to express the absolute craziness I feel around me right now. This is a moment when nobody really knows what truth is, when facts don’t necessarily sway people, when everyone has their own side, creating a general sense of paranoia. To soothe, to dream, escape with drugs, TV shows, shopping, the internet, everything is easy, smooth, convenient, branded. It made me want to disrupt, to follow something unknown, maybe even to fail.”

Dylan Cover #622 Lia Havlena "Love Minus Zero/No Limit"
In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune comes from Lia Havlena and is a live cover of "Love Minus Zero/No Limit".
A personal gateway song, the first Dylan love offering that truly spoke to me was "Love Minus Zero/No Limit". It is an easy song to like, with it's sweet melody and one that gets deeper and deeper the more you contemplate the lyrics. Dylan uses some insane imagery to put true love into words with surreal phrasing that delivers the goods in a way that is tough to describe. In one sense, this is peak Dylan, moving with grace, describing things uniquely and just out of reach.

Dylan Cover #621 Lisa Bastoni "Workingman's Blues #2"
One of Dylan's late career highlights, "Workingman's Blues #2" first appeared on Modern Times and was a stunning reminder of how Dylan can just completely nail it sometimes. The ease with which the piano and song flows out reminds of Dylan's best work, as if the song has always been there and he is just breathing it into existence at this time and place. It owes a debt to Merle Haggard, the Civil War, poet Henry Timrod and thousands of others, but is perfectly Dylan when it comes to the lyrics which bounce all over. A folk song, mistitled a blues song, for the workingman that feels aloof, pure Dylan
