Album Review: Bardo - Everywhere Reminds Me Of Space

Hey all, got a new review up @glidemag which you can read Right C'here!!

It is of Bardo's first solo record titled Everywhere Reminds Me Of Space.

The lead singer of Chicano Batman has continued his bands more synth-y vibes that they put out on Invisible People and made a electro pop record. While RtBE are more partial to their 2017 release, Freedom Is Freedom (which made our best of the 2017 list), but this new solo offering is a chill album.

Free Download PHISH LIVE BAIT VOL. 17

With their summer tour kicking off tonight Phish has released the newest version of their free download series, Live Bait Vol 17
Go over to live phish to grab it

A few months back we came across the 7/3/00 show from the E-Center in Camden, NJ and enjoyed reliving the night. It was a good show, but not one that particularly stuck out in our memory, outside of the insane downpour we were caught in and the mudslinging down the lawn.

When diving back in though the "Runaway Jim" and the "Sand" from that night got immensely better upon re-listen and are now two of our favorite versions of those songs that we return to often.

Phish liked it as well including Jim on this version of Live Bait. Below are both of those two from the show.

Live Review: The Dimmer Twins 7/23/21 City Winery, NYC

Hey all, got a new review up @glidemag which you can read Right C'here!!

It is of The Dimmer Twins show on Friday July 23rd at City Winery on the Hudson River.

The concert was my first indoor show since the pandemic started and the vibe was very positive.  However the venue was only about half full, which made things feel less dangerous breathing wise but this show was joyous all around.

Support the artists, read the review, peep some video from the duo from a few years ago:

Dylan Cover #489 Chris Blais "What Good Am I?" Live

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune comes from Chris Blais and is a live cover of "What Good Am I?"

Thought's on Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this song:
Coming on the heels of Dylan's most powerful song in decades "What Good Am I?" can get lost on Oh Mercy, but the track is a sorrowful sweet plea. Slow and deliberate, questioning like the Louisiana night that may have inspired it. Dylan's vocal performance may not be his best, but at the heart of it this is a really powerful song. Not one of his better known tracks, but a goodie all the same. Simple and slow, direct without hidden agenda's (I think...) all of which is a bit unique for Bob.

Cover:

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
This is our first time hearing Chris Blais.

Thoughts on Cover:
A meditative live solo piano cover. Well played and sung with emotional resonance.

Album Review: Acid Daddy - Take It From The Dead

Hey all, got a new review up @glidemag which you can read Right C'here!!

It is of Acid Daddy's newest release, Take It From The Dead.

The NYC trio made a more melodic record than past releases but still give enough fuzz and buzz to sooth rock guitar deficient ears.

Dylan Cover #488 Nahara ft. Bill Bottrell "I Want You"

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover by Nahara ft. Bill Bottrell singing "I Want You"

Thoughts on Original:
(From the first time we tackled a cover of this song)
A song that fits the Gemini Dylan like a glove; direct lyrical yearning chorus with verses that meander about introducing characters like roadblocks in the way of true love. It was the last tune written for the mega Blonde on Blonde and a song he and others (it was Al Kooper's favorite) admired so much he almost titled the album after it. Never a track that jumps to the top of peoples "favorites" or "best of" Dylan lists but one that really nails what the artist is all about in some of the simplest terms.
Cover:

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
This is our first time coming across Nahara and Bill Bottrell.

Thoughts on Cover:
The duet vocals are very nice, working well on this fairly straight ahead cover that focuses on the singing. Good stuff.

Album Review: Mesh - Mesh

Mesh
S/T
*** out of *****

The self titled collection of tunes from the Philadelphia based four piece Mesh is a snappy run through of late 70's/early 80's inspired Brit art punk in the vein of the Buzzcocks and The Jam

Opening with the bass pumping "CIA Mind Control" the group fall into that Pete Shelley formula of catchy as hell pop punk with darker lyrical themes. They stick with this style through "Company Jeep"  bringing in angular guitar strums and "Missing Link" which gets the pogo bopping via slapping drums.

"The Traveler" carries with it a more varied pallet, incorporating western themed desert rock, spacey keyboard noises and an artsy cinematic scope. The glue sniffing finale "UR Dead" also plays with electro keys and guitar effects while traversing a wide musical range in just over two and a half minutes.

The band confidently drives through the five tracks on this self titled EP, mixing art/pop/punk throughout. A solid offering from Mesh that finds the band respecting its influences while delivering original efforts.
