This week it is Anderson Paak & The Free Nationals - House of Vans London 2022.
It is of the live show from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Washington DC on Saturday September 7th. Bruce and company topped our list of favorite shows last year and they just may again this year. Nothing negative to say as E Street and Springsteen are still on top of their game.
With summer wrapping up and fall about to start in the Big Apple, Joe Russo's Almost Dead played the first show of a two night stand on Friday September 6th to a sold out crowd at one of the best NYC venues, Pier 17.
In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover by Big Al and the Brothers of the Bluesplaying "Million Miles"
Thoughts on Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune:
From the barren blues of Time Out Of Mind comes "Million Miles". While not a standout on that album, the song was prophetic, hinting at the fantastic twelve bar blues variations that would dominate Dylan's next two releases. When first heard though it doesn't jump out, just feels like yet ANOTHER solid track from the bard and is ripe for covering.
Yet another reason why we continue this series, this cover kicks ass! The trio strip "Million Miles" down to raw blues essence. Singing with gorgeous passion, playing mean guitar, and keeping a engaged low end; this is a dynamite live version all around.

In June 2023, Simply Red took the stage at the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire, marking their most intimate London performance in nearly two decades. This very special one-off launch show celebrated the release of their latest studio album 'Time'.
For those unaware, here is some history from the website:
Bandcamp Fridays began in March of 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when the shuttering of venues led to a loss of vital tour revenue for artists. Bandcamp Fridays—on which we waive our revenue share and pass the funds directly to artists & labels—has resulted in millions of fans paying over $120 million directly to labels and musicians they love.
This is a great deal for artists, and for fans who are waiting to buy an album. Almost every artist RtBE reviews has a bandcamp page, intrigued by our Max Boogie OverdriveStoned Again review? We found the band through bandcamp.
Even my band, Angels & Vagabondshas one if you would like to buy my music and review me! Whoever you like, odds are they have music on bandcamp, so head on over and help out any of the artists.
The newest album from Ducks Ltd., titled Harm's Way, is a collection of jangling guitar and emo laced pop rock that finds the Toronto duo of Tom McGreevy and Evan Lewis both dreaming and wallowing at the same time.
Standard disclaimer: When reviewing the Dave's Picks series, and really any Grateful Dead release at this point, it needs to be noted that a lot of the truly great shows from the band have already been professionally released. (If new to the band, check out RtBE's Beginners Guide to The Grateful Dead Part's one and two.) With their vast back catalog on archive.org and all of their previous releases, the band's selections are running thin when it comes to must own, professionally released shows.
That said, this series still exists for a reason, obsessive fans (like RtBE) will always listen to anything from The Grateful Dead as Dave and his team continue to unearth rare gems.
In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover by David Albion playing "Union Sundown"
Thoughts on Original: From what has become an annual tradition here and here: Wanted to pick this one for Labor Day as it is Dylan's take on the lack of US manufacturing jobs as well as the increasing flux of capitalism in society and the death of unions. The idea of greed taking over is nothing new, but this song seems to come from an impulsive Dylan (a lot do) and shows up on Infidel's of which Dylan has commented something along the lines of "Those songs stuck around too long".
Ideas seem to be a bit jumbled on this disk, but not on this tune, his lament at no good paying jobs for American workers is clear, but he isn't passing the buck. It is all of HIS products that are foreign made, this isn't a plea for change as a younger Dylan might have done; it is a simple statement of fact...and a sad one at that.
Having grown up in a extremely pro-Labor house hold I just wanted to point this tune out and the fact that Dylan wrote it over 40 years ago, and things have only gotten worse... Happy Labor Day....

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
This is the first time we are hearing David Albion.
Thoughts on Cover:
An echoing cool cover from Albion that warps with pedal effects and strong vocals.
