About the song, Matt Rice states:
"I wrote this song days before the first recording sessions. The demo recording was kind of a folky with just acoustic guitar. It was only the verses at the time — like a blues kind of structure: verse-verse-solo-verse- solo-verse. Producer Brian Whelan’s thought was “I like the song a lot but it isn’t finished. Go write the rest of the song and bring it back.” That caught me off guard but when I got home, I realized he was right. So I wrote a chorus, an extra verse and brought it back. It was still an acoustic folky song at that time but now it had more of a pop structure with verses and choruses. Together in the studio Brian, Luke and Matt mixed in a little Lubbock, Texas vibe with some Memphis groove and Hollywood seasonings to make the song it’s own thing."
