In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover from Margot Cotten and it is a version of "One More Cup Of Coffee"
Thoughts on Dylan Original: From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune: Bob's story tunes seemed to crest on Desire and "One More Cup Of Coffee" fits in the Western/Biblical/Mystical motif of both "Isis" and "Romance In Durango" but puts fourth a more ominous feel than either. Singing with Emmylou Harris on the original recording a haunting combo of voices which gets along perfectly with violins and other rag tag players from the sessions. A damn good song. Cover:
Thoughts on Cover Artist:
RtBE dig her sound and style. From Cotten's bio: Margot Cotten is the only French girl who can actually play americana without blushing. Playing drums, guitars and keys, she is a multi-talented singer songwriter. Make sure to watch her new videos on Sundays. She plays covers by Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Elton John, Cat Stevens, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds, Neil Young etc as well as her own material.
Thoughts on Cover:
A great cover that sticks close to the original with excellent support from Louise Lhermitte on violin and backing vocals. One thing not mentioned all month is that English is Cotten's second language and by her dynamite vocals you would never know as she expertly handles all of Dylan's word play.
It was a fun month showcasing Cotten's covers of Bob Dylan. As she states if you want to support her you can always send her money. Keep up to date with her projects as well.

It is of Chrissie Hynde's newest release, Standing In The Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan.
Obviously this site loves Dylan covers, so this is right in our wheelhouse. We won't say more because we may showcase this in our Monday's series in the future.
This is also the second Chrissie Hynde solo album we covered on the site, but we liked the last one's album art a bit better.

Today we highlight: Miles Davis Birthday/Kind of Blue Vinyl Release
Three great musicians, Ron Carter, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, and Vince Wilburn Jr. join Ashley Kahn and Chad Kassem to celebrate Davis's Birthday and the release of Kind of Blue on UHQR quality vinyl.
This one is more diverse and has even higher highs, but it is a little less consistent. The main title track is a beast a though and one of our favorite songs of the year. The album art is great again as well.

Today we highlight: Phish 7/24/93 Great Woods
Phish's Dinner and Movie Series is back with a Great Woods show from Summer '93.
Stereogum discussedBob Dylan with 80 different artists to get their takes on their favorite songs of his. This is a really cool piece to celebrate the bard's 80th birthday.
There are some RtBE favorite artists like the first one on the list Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah who chose "Only A Pawn In Their Game" and goes deep with the song, really making som illuminating points.
It is a joy to read CSaA go deep as well as other artists like David Byrne talking about "Murder Most Foul", Margo Price recounting her first time listening to "last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie", Paterson Hood discussing one of our all-time favorites "Blind Willie McTell" and Will Oldham discussing "Brownsville Girl".
In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's artists, Margot Cotten doing a live cover of "4th Time Around"
Thoughts on Original: From the first time we tackled a cover of this song: This is a weird one, as I heard this track after I had already fallen in love with The Beatles "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" and didn't know what Dylan was getting at with this song. After checking out Wikipedia, I guess I am not alone as John Lennon was all over the map with his reactions to it. The music is the same and the lyrics are a mix of lazy and nonsense, reading into anything Dylan says too heavily can cause one to go mad, but why he chose to do this song so close to when the Beatles had their first lyrical success is a mystery. Social commentary, goof, stoned malaise? Anywhichway, the song was never one of my favorites and not up to anywhere near the version he was praising or mocking, take your pick.

While the last few weeks we showed Cotten covering some of Dylan's weightiest tunes, shifting gears proves that she can deliver on the light ones as well. A beautiful take on the breezy Beatles influenced Dylan track.
While the name may not jump out immediately his work will as he was the house drummer for Muscle Shoals and played on such hits as Aretha Franklin's cover of "Respect", "Think", and The Staple Singers "I'll Take You There" as well as countless others.
Let's take a moment to remember him best by listening to his work.

The lineup for LOLLAPALOOZA Chicago has been announced.
The long running festival has moved well into the pop world for their return after the pandemic bringing in artists like Post Malone and Miley Cyrus. Can see the full lineup here:
While it is exciting to have live music back, this lineup and the awful Governors Ball prove that it is going to take some time for festivals to get back on their feet as well. Here is Tyler The Creator who will be playing the festival this summer.

One half of the Dimmer Twins, Mike Cooley will be playing tonight:
It is of The Black Keys newest offering Delta Kream.
This cover album is a return to the bands blues roots. While it could have been edited a bit, the album is more a labor of love for the band so there is no harm in them indulging.
