One of the best live albums of all-time.

For Tracks II, Bruce Springsteen decided to focus on albums (or close to it as you can get) he had recorded, yet chose not to release for various reasons over the years. The massive collection of 83 songs is overwhelming to those without a hardcore love of The Boss, however a few of these collections are enjoyable no matter your level of fandom.

To celebrate what would have been Clifton Chenier's 100th birthday, Valcour Records put together a tribute album that brings together a wide range of Chenier's musical fans. A Tribute to the King of Zydeco is a benefit album that supports Clifton Chenier Memorial Scholarship, which will offer annual financial assistance to students studying Traditional Music, specifically Zydeco accordion, keeping Louisiana Music alive for future generations. 

Year In Review 2025 - Favorite Archival Releases

Each year the music industry dips into the past to deliver box sets, live albums, re-masters and outtake collections to sell to the music loving masses (present company included). This look back will round up some of RtBE's favorite archival releases from the past year. 

Usually these releases can fall into the money grab category, not really adding much outside of revenue for the label and (hopefully) the artist. Every now and then though some spectacular collections are unearthed and are worth any price. 

RtBE includes live albums in this category, since they were recorded in the recent or distant past and thus fall into archival release status. 

With the increase in vinyl, and enhanced Record Store Days to help smaller sellers, there are more and more archival releases each year. RtBE are sure to miss a lot of them, but the quality and abundance is exciting. Post your favorites, or any we may have missed, in the comments.

Neil Young has always followed his muse. Sometimes it leads to magic, sometimes to solid results and sometimes things are better left unsaid. His newest release, titled Talkin' to the Trees, his first with The Chrome Hearts backing him, falls into the last category. While it is great that Neil is still making music, perhaps this one should have stayed on the shelf as the album feels torpid, redundant and misguided at times.

On a pleasant summer Saturday Night in New York City, rock and roll legends The Who played Madison Square Garden on their supposed farewell tour titled The Song Is Over. Before the band started up Pete Towshend stated that The Who had played MSG 36 times and that this would "probably" be the last time, so the door is still open to a return.

Bruce Springsteen's classic Born to Run turns 50 years old today. 

Bruce is still touring and doing great, pretty amazing that this classic album has been around for 50 years.

Neil Young has been going back through his archives and releasing 'lost albums', and it can be a mixed bag for long time fans (RtBE Included). Is the music good? Yes. Have we heard it all before? For the most part, yes. Are these new albums needed? Not really. Can the artist do what they want? Sure.

Happy 55th Anniversary to Miles Davis' Bitches Brew

On this day 55 years ago, Miles Davis released one of his most iconic albums, Bitches Brew.

While jazz purists scoffed at the electro based release, the album is his second best selling of all time (only behind Kind of Blue), and opened the doors for jazz fusion (and more rock in general) to enter the jazz world. 

It is also one of RtBE's favorite albums of all time.

Miles '54: The Prestige Recordings Box Set was released in December 2024 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of these recordings on the Prestige label, which capture Miles Davis in a transitional year of his career.  Remastered from the original recordings the sound is crisp and lively as Davis, and a rotating cast of players, still sound fresh all these years later. 

Year In Review 2024 - Favorite Live Shows

The live show is a slippery thing. There are lots of variables at play, most having little to do with the performance itself. Does the venue have enough bathrooms? Is it going to rain? What day of the week is it on? Did I have a shitty day at work before hand? Did tickets cost waaay too much? All of this can alter one's opinion of a live show before the band even tunes up and with reason. However, when the stars align, there is no place RtBE would rather be than in the moment of magic occurring spontaneously from the stage.

While obviously we can't see every show that is out there, we try to get out often to catch live music. Sure there are a few left in the calendar year, but for now, here is a listing of the best concerts we were fortunate enough to have caught in 2024.

There are links to show reviews in the titles, also because who doesn't love arbitrary rankings, one show at the bottom took the top prize as RtBE's 2024 Favorite Live Show. 

Happy 45th Anniversary to Neil Young's Live Rust

Released on November 14th, 1979, Neil Young's Live Rust turns 45 today. 

A few days after Young turned 79 the mega live album with dynamite performances from Neil and Crazy Horse turns 45.  Oh and the record also has a killer concert film attached.

It is of the live show from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in Washington DC on Saturday September 7th. Bruce and company topped our list of favorite shows last year and they just may again this year. Nothing negative to say as E Street and Springsteen are still on top of their game.
