New Single from Konata Small x Disciple Theory "With A Bang"
”"With A Bang" is a song that speaks on the beginning of things. One of the pivotal moments in my life happened in Brooklyn, New York. This was when I was a bystander to a shootout as a preteen. The event was the catalyst for change that eventually moved me to South Florida which is where I met God, and where I was introduced to the talent that I yield now in Hip-Hop as an artist/songwriter/rapper. So for me, it all started with a bang. This is my story.”

John Moreland Releases New Video/Single "Gentle Violence"
The Bixby, Oklahoma based folk artist John Moreland released a new single/video for his tune "Gentle Violence".
“Gentle Violence is a song about a strained relationship with a loved one, in the hyper-political post-pandemic USA. The tension and sorrow around the tough relationship are a microcosm of the tension and sorrow we feel as citizens of this broken world. ”

New Video/Single from Witherfall "They Will Let You Down"
The composition is a showcase of a variety of our heavier influences. A stark contrast to the previous single ‘When it all Falls Away’. The lyrics deal with people in our lives that do not live up to reasonable expectations. The Chorus embracing isolation in an ever decaying world. "Embrace The Silence, They Will Let You Down"
Album Review: Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us
The new Vampire Weekend album, Only God Was Above Us, the first in five years, is a "harder" Vampire Weekend album than their others. The music is a little grungier and noisier as the band members enter their 40s. It's still got boppy beats and features organs and choral arrangements, but it's as hard as Vampire Weekend is likely to get. This is a record that finds a band--a trio made up of lead singer and guitarist Ezra Koenig, drummer Chris Tomson, and bassist Chris Baio--once darlings of a youth-driven indie scene, segueing into the throes of middle age, writing about country houses, entrenched societal cruelty, and making peace with it all.

New Single/Video from Nightjacket "All of My Friends"
Jordan Wiggins from the band states:
"We really tried to make the song a journey, so that it grows and has new elements that pop in and pull your attention as you listen along. Hopefully it's a ride for people, like rolling down Sunset Blvd., passing neon signs, peering into bars and turning in and out of alleyways until you get to where it's bright again."

Dylan Cover #631 Charlie Pittman "A Hard Rain's Gonna' Fall"
Dylan singing from a position of fear as he poetically discusses the Cuban Missile Crisis and the possibility of Nuclear annihilation. Dylan also mentioned in Chronicles that the song was inspired by a feeling he got when reading microfiche newspapers in the New York Public Library: "After a while you become aware of nothing but a culture of feeling, of black days, of schism, evil for evil, the common destiny of the human being getting thrown off course. It’s all one long funeral song." An apt description and a powerful song from a young songwriter.

New Single/Video from Lightning Bug "Lullaby For Love"
“I wrote "Lullaby for Love" as part of a mixtape for an ex-partner. It was actually kind of a joke between us, like leaning into the cheesiness of being in love. But as life flowed on, it kind of stuck with me. When you’re really in love, it feels like a special world that exists outside time and space. I don’t even mean with a romantic partner, necessarily. You could be in love with the ocean, with the sunlight, a really perfect day. And you just want it to go on forever. That’s what I wanted to express in this song. ”

RtBE have been fans of the band since they started and have reviewed all of their albums and seen them live. They made our best of list in 2021 and also topped our album art list the same year.
This is more of the same goodness, from the album art to the even better music. Look for it on many year end lists this year as well.

Dylan Cover #630 Grant Peeples featuring Ruthie Foster "Things Have Changed"
Thoughts on Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune:
One of Dylan's late career highlights is this haunting tune of isolating coldness that is sprinkled with some of his coolest vocal images and smirks. You can see him wheeling a lady down the street, drinking champagne with one and doing a creaky jitterbug with another. It can be the lighter side of "Love Sick" or a more urban update to "Mississippi" but even taken on it's own it is a hell of a slick tune. Unfortunately it was only released on the Wonder Boys soundtrack and not an official album, which is a let down, but it did win Dylan both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
Cover:
Thoughts on Cover Artist:
RtBE has come across Grant Peeples, (A self-described “tree-hugger that watches NASCAR,”) for the first time, but we dig on Ruthie Foster who played JF this year.
Thoughts on Cover:
An awesome cover. Drawn out a bit, dueling vocals, killer blues guitar, light lyrical shifts to make it personal, a really great cover, in fact I am not sure we have had a bad cover of "Things Have Changed" in this series, it is such a cool tune.
