Happy 45th Anniversary to Neil Young's Live Rust

Released on November 14th, 1979, Neil Young's Live Rust turns 45 today.

A few days after Young turned 79 the mega live album with dynamite performances from Neil and Crazy Horse turns 45.  Oh and the record also has a killer concert film attached.

While the film was released earlier in the summer (and it is a doozy capturing of the Cow Palace show) the live album captures Neil in some of his best live performances throughout the Rust Never Sleeps tour of '78. His mixing of old favorites, acoustic playing, electric rumbling and brand new songs that would become instant classics make Live Rust a must own.

While one live album topped this when we did our Masters series back in 2019, we couldn't argue if this was your favorite live Neil, it kicks ass and showcases all of his sides. It also apparently inspired Talking Heads to go more theatrical in their live show and create Stop Making Sense, so on top of all the great music we have that to thank Neil for as well.

From the acoustic strumming sweetness of "Sugar Mountain" to the crunching dystopia riffs of "Tonight's The Night", Neil is on. Backed by Crazy Horse the power is palpable with chugging riffs and big jams, the odd reggae accents in "Cortez The Killer" and "Like A Hurricane" which is a beast as the band and Neil stir it up on perhaps the definitive live version of the tune.

So let's celebrate the album the best way possible, by playing it loud:
