In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's artists, Margot Cotten doing a live cover of "4th Time Around"
This month we are doing another special focus in RtBE's Dylan Covers series. In the past we have highlighted The Byrds, Coulson-Dean-McGuiness-Flint, The Hollies, Joan Osbourne, Mountain, Betty LeVette , Reggae Covers and more.
This month we highlight Margot Cotten who we have featured twice earlier in this series, but now devote the full month to her Dylan Covers.
From the first time we tackled a cover of this song:
This is a weird one, as I heard this track after I had already fallen in love with The Beatles "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" and didn't know what Dylan was getting at with this song. After checking out Wikipedia, I guess I am not alone as John Lennon was all over the map with his reactions to it. The music is the same and the lyrics are a mix of lazy and nonsense, reading into anything Dylan says too heavily can cause one to go mad, but why he chose to do this song so close to when the Beatles had their first lyrical success is a mystery. Social commentary, goof, stoned malaise? Anywhichway, the song was never one of my favorites and not up to anywhere near the version he was praising or mocking, take your pick.

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
RtBE dig her sound and style. From Cotten's bio: Margot Cotten is the only French girl who can actually play americana without blushing. Playing drums, guitars and keys, she is a multi-talented singer songwriter. Make sure to watch her new videos on Sundays. She plays covers by Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Elton John, Cat Stevens, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds, Neil Young etc as well as her own material.
Thoughts on Cover:
While the last few weeks we showed Cotten covering some of Dylan's weightiest tunes, shifting gears proves that she can deliver on the light ones as well. A beautiful take on the breezy Beatles influenced Dylan track.
Another Dylan favourite of mine sung by a great artist.
