Dylan Cover #478 Margot Cotten "Idiot Wind" Live

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune comes from Margot Cotten and is a live cover of "Idiot Wind"

This month we are doing another special focus in RtBE's Dylan Covers series. In the past we have highlighted The ByrdsCoulson-Dean-McGuiness-FlintThe HolliesJoan OsbourneMountainBetty LeVette , Reggae Covers and more

This month we highlight Margot Cotten who we have featured twice earlier in this series, but now devote the full month to her Dylan Covers.

Thoughts On Original:
A whirling collection of hate wrapped up in poetic lines of cutting imagery and pain. "Idiot Wind" is one of the harshest songs ever written. It is tied to Dylan's divorce even though he claims it isn't autobiographical, while the disgust can be felt by all, no matter what the inspiration for the song truly was. The pain felt from a double crossing rage and glory comes through in Dylan's playing, words and vocal delivery which drips with repugnance before turning inward and to mankind as a whole for the finale. An amazing song that is specifically tied to Dylan, making it a tricky one to cover.

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
RtBE dig her sound and style. From Cotten's bio: Margot Cotten is the only French girl who can actually play americana without blushing. Playing drums, guitars and keys, she is a multi-talented singer songwriter. Make sure to watch her new videos on Sundays. She plays covers by Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Elton John, Cat Stevens, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds, Neil Young etc as well as her own material.

Thoughts on Cover:
Cotten nails this tough tune to deliver. One of our favorites of all of her covers of Dylan songs. She just keeps rolling through with a tense feeling that is palpable. An excellent version of an exacting tune to make your own.
