Dylan Cover #680 Alejandro Escovedo "Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues" Live

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a live cover by Alejandro Escovedo playing "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues"

All April (and the first week of May) RtBE focuses our Monday Dylan Cover Series on artists who are playing this years New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Today is Alejandro Escovedo who played the festival Thursday May 1st

Thoughts on Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this tune:
An energetic romp that has been covered by everyone, this tune is a great swirl through Dylan's freaky mind. It was a punch and a whirlwind journey through Juarez, Mexico around Easter time...Maybe. There are lots of literary hints dropped, as well as a mischievous smile throughout. One of the first Dylan tunes we gravitated towards and with good reason, it is still one of our favorites.

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
We caught Alejandro Escovedo a few months back at Jesse Mallin's return to the stage. I am actually surprised RtBE hasn't featured him earlier in this series.

Thoughts on Cover:
A fun, garage rocking/punk fueled cover that works really well with the tune. This kind of energy and rocking fits a lot of Dylan's tunes, and works excellent here as a show closer for Escovedo. RtBE always loves some loud Bob.

This wraps up our special focus on artists who played 2025 Jazzfest...until next year.
