Citric Dummies
Split With Turnstile
***and1/2 out of *****
The newest full length release from the Minneapolis, Minnesota based Citric Dummies is a screeching affair that finds their collective tongues planted firmly in cheeks as they mosh and stage dive throughout their Split With Turnstile.
The trio of David Lunch - Bass/Vocals, D.V. Tinner - Drums, David Cronutburger - Guitar, look to early 80's hardcore/punk for inspiration as their songs speed out with fiery power and fury. Acts like Regan Youth, Dead Kennedy's and hometown heroes Hüsker Dü influences can all be found coursing though these fast as hell tracks.
After a brief intro the group gives a trio of screaming punk disaffection as "I Don't Like Anything", "I Can't Relate", and "I Can't Stand the Weekend" are pounding with aggression and a touch of Black Flag punk humor. The group are locked and load as they rampage forward on the galloping/slamming "Bill's Garden (I Wanna Live In)" which uses hyper fast drumming.
The group also have some more modern flashes and inspirations as an effort like slippery/skittering "Grant Richardson's Burning Wreckage Welcome Home" has touches of early Arctic Monkey's in its heavy, slamming on the dance floor, energy. The motoring bass and gang vocals are also a nice touch during "My Life's a Total Sham".
The group are at home the most when just power forward as "Bozo Brain" is the most direct blast of hardcore here while "Crusin' for the Dead" has flashes of Motörhead banging. Both "I Am Your Napkin" and "Ain't Got Time (To Live)" flash Misfits aggression and musicality as the album wraps up.
A smoking, fun, high octane burst of punk/hardcore fuels the ultra enjoyable Split With Turnstile as Citric Dummies continue to crash forward.

Just wish it was faster
