One of the best questions for hip hop fans is which is the best Wu-Tang solo album?
There are many contenders, but over the years RtBE would have to say this is the solo album we go back to the most. Is it better than Liquid Swords? Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...? Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version? or Ghostface's own Supreme Clientele? I think that is debatable, but Fishscale is in the conversation and over the years it has become a personal favorite.
Right from the opening skit and then the amazing story song of a dope deal gone wrong in "Shakey Dog", the record just feels heightened. It is cinematic street poetry as Ghostface and collaborators keep it rolling for over an hour of entertainment that is funny, scary, funky and more.
"The Champ" is one of RtBE's favorite beats on any album, ever, and this album is chock full of great production from the likes of J Dilla, MF DOOM and more. A great hip hop record that should be played and appreciated on its 20th anniversary.
