Dylan Cover #202 Kevin Ayers- "Lay Lady Lay"

In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's tune is a cover from Kevin Ayers and it is of "Lay Lady Lay"

Thoughts on Dylan Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this song:
Excellent track and the first time the world heard Dylan's new singing style, which would only last for Nashville Skyline.  This song is the standout track from this album, it is a classic and so simple, yet sweet and timeless.  One of Dylan's best, the closest to country he ever got and an fantastic piece of music.

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
I have never heard of Kevin Ayers until listening to this cover but a quick search reveals he was vital in England's psychedelic scene as both a member of Soft Machine and his solo records.
Thoughts on Cover:
This is an interesting cover, a bit of mangled reggae topped off with some trippy outings and a deep vocal performance from Ayers. Can't say it is one of our favorites from this series but it is certainly unique, and we always appreciate it when people make the covers their own.
