In this ongoing Monday
Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan
song's. Today's artist, Grace Potter doing a live cover of "I Shall Be Released"
This month we have a special focus on Artists who will be
playing this years Jazzfest in New Orleans. Grace Potter plays on 4/22 on the Gentilly Stage
Thoughts on Original:
From the first time we tackled a cover of this song:
"I Shall Be Released" has been covered by
too many artists to count and with reason; it is a masterpiece. A
simple song that will forever be etched in Rock Legend as it ended
perhaps the best concert in recent pop music The Last Waltz.
The Band are always connected to the tune as Dylan wrote it during
those amazing days playing with the group up at Big Pink in the
Catskills and the group released it on their first album. Gospel in
nature the song is about salvation that can be certain, and each
listener (and performer) can add their own personal feelings into the
sketch, perfect for covering, especially live.

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
Grace Potter has been around the Jam scene for a long time it is kinda surprising RtBE has not caught her live yet.
Thoughts on Cover:
Not the best quality of recording or video to go by as it is at the end of a live set, this come down is tough to judge, but if we were in the audience I am guessing we would have thought it was one of the highlights of her set. We are guessing Grace may stop by this show to help out on this number.
