In this ongoing Monday Series we will be exploring various artists versions of Bob Dylan song's. Today's artists, Kenny Wayne Shepard doing a cover of "Everything Is Broken"
This month (and the first of May) we have a special focus on Artists who will be playing the 2017 Jazzfest in New Orleans. Today we highlight country music singer Kenny Wayne Shepard who will close out The Blues Tent this Saturday May 6th
Thoughts on Original:
If Bob wasn't the Bard "Everything Is Broken" would just be another tossed off song. However, is anything with Dylan just simply tossed off? Well this song certainly feels tossed off to me...sorry. Oh Mercy is a hell of an album, one of Dylan's classics, and this song is fine, it just can't even stand close to any of his all-time gems, not remotely close. One of the reasons I started this cover series was to show hoe amazing The Bard's songs are in just about anyone's hands, but if the original of this tune was written by Joe Schmoe would people think it was great, or is it just the Dylan name that gives it clout?

Thoughts on Cover Artist:
The Louisiana native Kenny Wayne Shepard has been on the scene since he could strum, playing electric blues all over the country. We actually saw him live waaaay back in the day on one of his first tours and liked his style but never really jumped on board. There is no doubting though that he can play that guitar.
Thoughts on Cover:
A fine cover of a pretty straight ahead dull song. With these tracks, lesser known Dylan tunes, we always enjoy it when an artist goes radically different with their cover. KWS didn't do that, this is straight ahead, and perfectly played, but nothing earth shattering.
