All Dinosaur Jr Albums Ranked

Hey all, got a new list up @glidemag which you can read Right C'here!!!
With the band releasing its 11th studio album last week Shane over at Glide asked me to put together a list ranking all of Dinosaur Jr's releases. This is a tough task which I found out when last year I picked a song to showcase from all of their albums. Truth is, the band have been amazingly consistent most people have personal fav's but I went back and listened to them all and try to be objective.

Who knows if I succeed but here is my list. I think that number one and eleven are fairly clear cut (one stone cold classic, one baby stepping onto the scene) the rest can almost be shuffled and re-arraigned in various orders. Anyways...enjoy the list, feel free to share your own and peep some video from the band below:

Year In Review 2011 - Top Ten Albums - Part 3 (5-1)

Another great year is finishing up for Rock The Body Electric and we wouldn't be a proper music blog if we didn't end the year with a "Best Of" list, so without further verbiage RtBE Presents it's third part of the Best of 2011 Top Ten Albums (5-1):
In the instance that RtBE has reviewed the album either on the site or somewhere else we will link to that review and just give a quick summation, just click on the name and title and you can read it.  RtBE worked with the Glide Team to give input on the their Top 20 so expect some overlap, but not a ton. Again the focus here is on full albums, not singles, but full releases you can slap on and listen to the all the way through.

This was an odd year, there were lot of solid disks but few that rose to the level of all-time greatness, for instance if all of these albums were released in 2010, none of them would have cracked last years top 5.  Maybe the #1 this year would have kicked off Dr. Dog or Noun, but it would have been close

Without further hubbub click the read more link down there to see #5-#1 of the Top Ten Albums of 2011:

Friday Funday - Best MC's of All-Time?

A few weeks ago my friend Steve decided to put together a pretty thorough blog post regarding his list of the best MC's of All Time.  You can read it right c'here...go ahead I will wait.

I noticed Young MC wasn't on the list so I wanted to give him some love...In all seriousness though I LOVE that song (its in the Holy Trinity) but Young MC probably wasn't close to Steve's best of list (A Shame Really).
After reading Steve's list I find it hard to argue with any of his choices.  His "almost made" section at the bottom covers most of the people that sprung to mind who weren't on his top 16.  I would personally make some small changes....

I would remove Common and put Eminem on the list of top 16, because while I don't particularly care for him it is hard to argue he is pretty ridiculous with his style and importance in the world of hip-hop.  I think this is a fantastic hip-hop tune and his best:
I would move up the list KRS-One and Jay-Z probably sliding down the likes of Posdnuous (who I personally love) and Tupac (who I personally do not love).
A few people who I would throw on the "just missed" side of things would be Eric Sermon, Parrish Smith Redman, and Slick Rick.  The one person omitted that I want to bring up (and I know he discusses him in Andre's blurb) is Big Boi.  While I agree most of Outkast's recent offerings have been dud's Big Boi has been surprisingly solid and when you go back to the groups heyday an argument can be made to his greatness and certainly equal status with Andre3000.

Anyway, lists were made for arguing, so feel free to comment, jeer or congratulate.  Enjoy yer weekend.

Best American "Rock" Bands Part 2

Before last weekend, I pointed out a list that Gibson Guitars created to get people fired up while the company showcased their version of the "50 Greatest American Rock Bands".  The full list is now reveled and you can see it here
I can argue with their list, but I can't argue with their guitars...

I don't want to re-hash my issues from the last post, I just want to take a moment to go over a few snubs that I am not surprised this company missed.  In thinking about this you need to take into account influence, longevity, popularity and a bunch of other stuff, but in the end it comes down to personal preference. Their list isn't horrible, it's also not great.   I decided to focus this post on 5 bands who I think need to be in the conversation, and two that were ranked waaay to low for my tastes.  Here are the 5 who should have been on the list or at least in the conversation, in no particular order:

Happy Fourth of July Weekend, Best American Bands Part 1

Wanted to wish everyone a happy and safe July Fourth weekend (USA! USA!)
To go the American route with music the fine folks over at Hidden Track, clued me into this list that Gibson Guitars put together about a question I have actually pondered in bars and on this blog before; who is the greatest American band?

After the jump we have albums 5-1, all are excellent and will remain in the my listening rotation for years to come I am sure.  There was actually a struggle for the top spot this year as I went back and fourth multiple times, but I feel pretty good with the list.  Some are popular, others aren't well known but all the music is captivating so click that Read More button and let's get started.

Year in Review 2010 - Top 10 Albums - Part 1 (The Just Misses)

Well we are about to complete the first calendar year for Rock The Body Electric, and we have had some amazing times in my brain and chatted about some great music.  I have been able to expand my writing style, delve deeper into The Dead and conduct a few special interviews; here's hoping it's only the beginning of things to come.

I got some ideas for the upcoming year and hope to incorporate a few new voices/threads/topics so we shall see.  Before we stumble into 2011 though we should probably give a look back, and because everyone and their mother enjoys a good list I am going to rattle off my top ten albums of 2010.
In the instance that I have reviewed the album either on the site or somewhere else I will link to that review and I will also provide a link to Amazon so you can pick it up with the quickness.  I worked with the Glide Team to give input on the their Top 20 so expect some overlap, but not a ton. Again the focus here is on full albums, not singles, but full releases you can slap on and listen to the full way through.

Today I am going to focus on the "Just Misses" and unfortunately the "Let Downs" released this year.  Here's hoping you like them, but also feel free to call me an idiot in the comments and tell me your choices.  Expect installment 2 soon, but for now click on the jump homey:

Year In Review 2009 - Top 10 Albums Part 3

In retrospect this year produced some killer music and a few really great full length offerings.  Lots of established artists and virgins newbies put out valiant efforts, so like everyone and their grandmother I came up with a Top Ten List from the past 12 months.  No live albums, box-sets or re-releases were harmed, or even considered for this list, Feel free to voice your opinions vigorously.
A lot of these albums I have already reviewed for Glide or other sites, so when that is the case I will link to my full review and try to say something else about the album here, because over the course of the year feelings can/do change on things.  Oh and give the groups some love by grabbing their albums, or even better, get up off your ass and see them live when they come around.

(One small note, I am noticing no Hip-Hop on this list, and while over the last few years I have been much more “rock” focused, I don’t ignore the genre, but I am certainly not an expert.  Jay-Z’s new one didn’t impress and unfortunately I have not given Raekwon’s album a listen yet (my bad), and I am sure I am missing other releases…oh well, feel free to direct me to any winners)

Today we will hit on some just misses and a few disappointments, and get to the Top Ten in good time…all in good time me droogies. Read On
